Food Pantry Sunday March 5  We will be collecting for the Ashland Food Pantry, and they have requested the following items:  condiments; juice; juice boxes; school snacks; cookies; crackers; rice mixes but not pasta presently; Spaghettio’s and ravioli, canned; toothpaste; shampoo; canned fruit, and baking mixes.

We’re Cooking with Gas Again!  We recently replaced our stove, a necessary expenditure due to its age, condition and ongoing gas issues.  To help defray the cost, we received gifts from the Ehrenzellers, the Fosters, and the Thiels.  We thank them for their generous donations, and also thank all who worked on this project.

Newsletter Available  The March/April edition of the church  newsletter is now available!   Copies can be found at the church entrances.  Thanks to Karen Scheffler for her work on this important communications piece.

Shamrock Shindig to Benefit PJB March 16 Project Just Because will be hosting a Shamrock Shindig fundraiser on Thursday, March 16 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at St. John’s Church in Hopkinton.  There will be appetizers, desserts, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, Irish singer and dances, live and silent auctions, and more.  The price is $40 per person or $70 per couple in advance; $50 per person at the door  People under 21 pay $20.  Go to www.projectjustbecause.org to purchase tickets.

Eucharist Visitors Wanted  Being a Eucharistic Visitor is a very special and rewarding ministry that involves bringing the Eucharist to those who are unable to attend church but wish to receive communion.  The next training session for Eucharistic Visitors will be held March 11 at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul’s in Boson.  Please contact Gordon if you have any questions or would like to consider this ministry.

Hymn Sing February 26  The congregation will be singing hymns suggested by parishioners as part of the service on February 26.  Come, sing, and enjoy!

Ash Wednesday March 1   Ash Wednesday, March 1, is the beginning of the Christian world’s observance of Lent, the season of penitence and intimacy with God. Each Sunday during Lent we will use the first part of the liturgy– the Liturgy of the Word– to practice the presence of God through a deep attending to the Scriptures and a special hymn selected for that purpose. The service will be at 7:00 pm.

Snow Cancellations  We hope everyone was informed of the cancellation of St. Paul activities  — including the morning service – on Sunday, February 12 because of the predicted blizzard.  We typically get the word out by sending an email to all parishioners on the distribution list , posting an announcement on St. Paul’s website, and changing the voice mail message at the church office.  If you are not on the  email distribution list and would like to be added, please see Lori Robak or contact the church office at office@stpaulhopkinton.org.

Single Again Meeting February 17  The next Single Again meeting will take place on February 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.   The purpose of this meeting is to brainstorm about a community service project the members can do together in the future.  The meeting is open to all singles, so please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested.

Food Pantry Collection February 5  The monthly food pantry collection will be held on February 5 and will benefit the Hopkinton Food Pantry at Project Just Because.  Requested items are:  any condiments, salad dressing (Italian and Ranch), pickles, canned mushrooms, salsa, bread crumbs, Hamburger Helper, sloppy joe mix, Spam, canned hash, Beefaroni, taco kits, oatmeal packets, Frosted Flakes, raisins, bottle juice (plastic please) crackers, Goldfish, popcorn, Fluff, jelly (not in glass jars, please) and dish detergent and sponges.

 

Women’s Retreat March 31- April 2  The 33rd Annual Episcopal Women’s Retreat will be held March 31 – April 2 at the Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center in Greenfield, New Hampshire.   The theme of this year’s retreat is “Women in Spirit Empowered.”  The cost is $235 (due February 28), which includes lodging and six meals.   If you are interested in attending this spiritually inspiring weekend, please RSVP to Dianne Belamarich at  dbelamarich@comcast.net or 508-397-9487 by February 10.

Single Again Meeting Hosts Guest Speaker on “The Gift of Singleness.”  The Single Again Group of St Paul’s will be hosting a special speaker at the January 20 meeting.  Our guest will once again be Vinnie Cappetta, Associate Pastor of Crossroads Community Church, Framingham. Dr. Vinnie Cappetta is also a licensed counselor specializing in grief counseling with Check Your Compass Counseling in Hopkinton. He will discuss “The Gift of Singleness.”   The meeting will be held at the Parish Hall at 7:00 p.m.  and is open to everyone.  Please tell any friends or family who might be interested.

Items Being Collected for MLK Day of Giving Back Cancer Care Bags   This Sunday, January 15, St. Paul’s will be collecting items for the Cancer Care Bags that are going to be assembled and decorated by the Hopkinton Christian Service Connection (HCSC)  during the MLK Day of Giving Back on Monday, January 16.    Items in high demand are sensitive skin body lotions (3 ounces or less) and fuzzy socks, although other items such as lip balms and activity books will also be accepted.  Items will be collected in a special basket in St. Paul’s main hall.  If you are interested in taking part in the HCSC MLK activity, which will take place at the Hopkinton Middle School gymnasium from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on January 16, please email Mary Overholt at mmoverholt@verizon.net

Food Pantry Collection January 8  The monthly food pantry collection will be held on January 8 and will benefit the Hopkinton Food Pantry at Project Just Because.  Requested items are oatmeal packets, hash, canned mushrooms, cookies, – Italian/Ranch salad dressing, brown sugar, sponges, marshmallow Fluff, taco kits, Goldfish, Spam, fruit pie filling, evaporated or condensed milk.
